ARTIST’S BIO

Rahel Roded / Tennenbaum, was born and raised in Jerusalem Israel,
at the edge of the South East side. On the border of rural fields,
and the Judaic desert with the Dead Sea in view, Rahel was inspired by the buildings,
where it's a city law to build the outer-face of all structures with "Jerusalem Stone."
In her childhood Rahel's mother used to take her to classical music concerts,
art festivals, and museums in Israel and Europe.

Between 1992 to 1998, she was a graphic design student in the renowned "Wizo Canada College"
in Haifa, excelling in the arts, as well as a flight attendant for ELAL (the Israeli airline).
These experiences resulted in an inevitable powerful exposure to the arts,
locally and all over the world. For a brief time, Rahel was also a graphic designer
in the famous Israeli fashion design Magazine "AT."

She moved to the US, first to NYC in 1999, to fulfill a dream
that was created while a flight attendant. Rahel worked in NYC's branch
of the famous Israeli newspaper "MAARIV" in downtown, in the shadow
of the World Trade Center. In addition, she enriched herself with studies
in graphic computer programs, and worked in an art gallery (Taly's) in the Upper East Side.

She lived in Arizona and took classes in water color and sculpture
in the Scottsdale Community College.
During this time, she made a unique wood art piece.

That piece later inspired her, after settling in Los Angeles,
to create the ODEHYA art that focuses on positive spiritual messages
made in unique, forever lasting exotic materials.

Rahel has been influenced by the power of spirituality and volunteering since 2000.

ABOUT THE ART

ODEHYA art creates one of a kind original pieces in exotic materials, like wood and stone.

The focus of the art is enhancing the power and beauty that lies in the written letters,
especially in the Hebrew letters.

The levels of writings:
The First - the known and familiar type, ink on paper,
where the writings are physically separated from the paper.

The Second - etched letters on different materials,
a more powerful and lasting writing, where the writing and the material etched on are one.

The Third - Lettering - cut out letters of a chosen material,
the MOST powerful writings. This type of writing is not only physically long lasting,
but brings powerful energy as the writings are not only one with the material
they are cut out of, but also brings the light (physical and spiritual) thorough the letters.
Looking at letters written this way brings an elevated feeling to the one viewing them.

There are some clues that the first time this form was used was actually at Mount Sinai,
on the Ten Commandments’s stone plates.

To achieve a more powerful experience, the artist chose to create the second and third types.

The color of the wood has not been retouched with any staining colors, but is enhanced only with a clean finish.
